The Light on our Path

The Light on our Path

Today, while I was at the gym, a group of young men, probably high school age and just a little older, were playing a game of basketball that was really high energy. You could see how the players were putting all their effort into playing the game, and it was not because they had a big audience cheering them on. They were giving it their best efforts, cheering themselves on, vocally, and playing with great gusto.

There have been times when we have all played like that, haven't we? How are we playing in the game of life? Are we just grinding and putting in our time? Or are we playing with gusto? Enjoying what we do, and doing it well?

But then sometimes we let that fire go out and that is when people are lacking motivation in all areas of life; their career, their relationships, their hobbies or self care.

We are seeing lots of that around us now. One of the results of the shutdowns and interruptions that happened with covid, many people are choosing not to return to their old jobs and many are either changing their careers or looking for ways to change their careers.

Many took the opportunity to take up new hobbies like gardening, cooking, baking and related activities as healthy ways to use their energies, learn more about their food, and make these activities part of their lives.

Many made physical changes in their homes, that will make the energy flow better, in some cases to create home offices, home fitness centers, or space for other things they like to do.

Permanent changes? Yes. Many companies are now letting people work from home. Many people have created new businesses for themselves. As many as one third of all the people who used to work in hospitality will not return.

At one graduation party where I read recently, quite a number of the young people, both men and women, said that they wanted to go into nursing. More than I have seen at other graduation parties in recent years. An aberration? I think not. All of this is the external evidence of people responding to the fire within. They see a light on that path and they want to go there. Other new patterns include young women wanting to make careers in science and engineering. More than in the past. That path is illuminated for them and calls to them.

The events of the last year and a half have inspired many people to make significant changes in their lives, and there are more to come. Others are thinking about what changes they want to make but they have not made them yet because they are still considering their various options. Often when negative or difficult things happen in our lives, the choices we make to rebound enable us to make choices that we have been thinking about but were not motivated to take.

Where is the light on the path for you? What is is that you really want to do? What next choice will make you happiest to do and light up your life? Where do we see more light when we are choosing?

Yes, I took the picture above while I was out walking the dog. No the stones don't go on like that forever. As soon as I saw the light on this path, I found it inviting.

What paths are lighting up for you?

I always love hearing from you, so if you feel like sending me a note, calling or coming to see me, please do!

Have a wonderful day!

What Lies Beneath

What Lies Beneath
What do you see here? A beautiful lake in the mountains with a lot sailboats taking people out for a ride? Yes. And there is something else that is out there, that no one sees.

That is the old town of Dillon, which is at the bottom of the lake. Probably a lot of people do not know that, they are just enjoying the lake. And that is fine.

Symbolically, the element of water is about our relationships, emotions, love, connections, and that is why we always express emotions in watery terms. Blood, sweat, tears, orgasms, our sense of taste. All ways that water conveys our emotions.

How many of us have buried towns beneath our waters? It is evolution when we leave an old part of our life behind as we chart new territories to explore and develop.

Water helps soothe emotional pain. Water cleanses. Water is a current that aligns with our flow and travels with us as we move forward in life.

Our old history is below, the present is on top. We do not have to keep tripping and stumbling on the old things that once were problems. Once we have learned our lessons and made peace with ourselves, we can use that wisdom to move on to higher levels.

Knowing what parts of the history need to be examined before they can be healed is one aspect, another is simply letting go of those experiences that we have already examined and can be left peacefully buried.

The symbolism was something that caught my attention when I thought about sailboats smoothly maneuvering over a sunken town.

This photo is Lake Dillon. This weekend I had the pleasure of reading for a party out there.

In the winter this is one of the towns where people stay to go skiing. In the summer, there is boating, bicycling, and hiking.

What I learned was that at the bottom of this lake sits the original town of Dillon. Years ago, it started with prospectors and a trading post. Many of the towns that are now ski resorts were originally mining towns. So was Blackhawk, where people today try to strike it rich at gambling tables.

What happened is that Denver bought the land out there and built a dam that is fed by water from the Snake River & Tenmile Creek. Today Dillon serves a reservoir for Denver and other front range cities.

Other places in the U.S. have also done that, create lakes that displaced little towns. The original town gave way to a new town. One chapter of our life leads to another.

I always love hearing from you, so if you feel like sending me a note, calling or coming to see me, please do!

Have a wonderful day!
