New Office, New Energies

New Office, New Energies
Since my last newsletter, I have moved into a new home and new home office. I am still in Longmont, less than 2 miles from the old address, for those of you who have come to my office before. The new address is on the bottom of the newsletter. I have also updated it on Google Maps and my website.
You will see that the new office is a little larger than the old office and this new place is pet free.
Interestingly, this is a 7 year for me, as well as a 7 year for society as a whole, and so here we are at the beginning of a new year, with me settling in and reorganizing the office, along with the rest of the place. The new office is open and ready for business now.
When we make a move like this, we give more thought to what we are keeping and what we are letting go. There are things we had not thought much about until it is time to pack and unpack. All this causes me to focus my energy more clearly as I let go of certain things and clear the path to the next level of energies.
It is a reminder of many things, such as the evolution of our living and working spaces. I have never been an early adapter to technology. I have learned to use computers as they entered the workplace. I was not the first person I know to get a computer or cell phone.
Now that we have them, and we get more efficient at using them, it prompts thoughts about our things. Consider how the new laptops are much less material to tote around than the old desktop model computers.
So the new computers take up a lot less space and do a many more things than the older models. Our smart phones now have made answering machines, calculators, rolodexes, faxes, separate GPS devices and cameras unnecessary. We can become quite efficient with all the new apps, but we still have a lot of other stuff in our homes and offices.
I am old fashioned in many ways. I still have a paper calendar hanging on my wall. I still write my appointments with pencil in a paper calendar book. I get the local newspaper delivered every day because I like the feel of reading it that way with my morning coffee. I like the local news about the new stores, restaurants, businesses, community events and the new housing developments that are planned. Feels right to read it in the local paper. I write in my paper journal and notebook with a pen. I prefer to read books that are ink on paper. It feels soothing on the eyes after spending hours working on the computer. Spending a little time every day gazing at the sky or the horizon help relax the eyes in the same way after work, or during breaks.
In light of all this, after packing and unpacking shelves of books and CDs, I can see the appeal of streaming music and ebooks. Although I listen to streaming music on my phone, some of the CDs in my collection I bought from the musicians, others are hard to find, and many are just old favorites. If I did all books and music as streaming, I would not have to pack & unpack my library to move. Or at least not so much of a library.
There is also the art and the instruments. Different rooms call for different arrangements. Some art pieces become more prominent, while others may be retired for a while. Each space has a different flow due to the structure and location relative to the building. The feeling of my practice has evolved over time. Experience is a great teacher.
You may be wondering why I do not mention movies. I never bought movies. There are books that I will always have for reference, so they get used over and over. But I rarely watch a movie more than once, just as I never read a novel more than once. I just rent and watch. Music I listen to over and over. I am still giving a lot of thought to these decisions as I create the new office space. I feel that even though I am letting more go, I will always keep some books and CDs in physical form. Technology has prompted some of my evolution, as I am sure it has prompted you in various ways.
What kinds of things have you done differently since we have these newer technologies? What kinds of thoughts does moving prompt within you?
When you moved your office, did it cause you to rethink your set up? Or did you just try to replicate the last one?
Did you try to create a different feeling with the new office?
Did the new setting give you a new look at yourself?
It did for me. What happened with you?
This will be an exciting year. It already is.
I always love hearing from you, so if you feel like sending me a note, calling or coming to see me, please do!
Have a wonderful day!

2023 is a 7 year in Numerology

2023 is a 7 year in Numerology
In numerology, 2023 is a 7 year. What does that mean?
First of all, that is the new year that begins on January 1 that is for society as a whole. This differs from our personal new year which is our birthday every year. We have a national holiday on New Year's Day, but each of us lives in the birthday to birthday year, so when we take a look at both, we see two different patterns.
Here is how to calculate your personal energy for the year. Simply add together all the numbers of your last birthday until you reduce them to a single digit. This is called your personal year energy.
To calculate your life path energy, which lasts your entire lifetime, just like your zodiac sign comes from your birth date and stays with you for your whole life, do the same. Add up all the numbers of your birth month, day and year.
Each of us has one number that lasts our whole life and one new one each birthday, which lasts for one year.
So what does the 7 mean for the whole society's new year? Good news. 7 will be a heart centered year. How so, you ask?
Think about the things that come in sets of 7. This is the number of notes on the musical scale. The number of days in the week. The number of colors in the rainbow. Our world has 7 continents and 7 seas.
In ourselves, we have 7 energy centers (chakras, a widely accepted energy map of our body which originated with the system of ayurvedic medicine from India). Of these, our heart is in the center of us. There are 3 energy centers above our heart, and 3 below our heart.
So a 7 year is very heart centered. It is about aligning with what we feel is important.
We will choose to bring things to a pleasant resolution. We find peace in our hearts from aligning our heart felt values with our actions. We will see more win/win agreements. We will see resolutions come to difficult situations.
Bringing things into alignment may bring up some difficult choices or different options than we had considered. When we are reconsidering our values, ideals or goals, that may cause us to let go of something that has been with us for a while, but in the end, we feel clearer in our direction. Sometimes the changes we want to make and things we want to try have been on the back burner for a while. Bringing them forward will be part of this alignment for us.
Personally, each our years will vary according to our personal year energy, which is independent, yet will intertwine with society as a whole. For example, during the last few difficult years, disruptions created difficulties for many of us, yet many of us did very well. There will be good news in many ways, and developments that will work well as a whole.
In a holistic way, when we act from our hearts, we find solutions that work well for us and others. I smile imagining this as a dominant energy this year. Changes we need to go through will not all be easy, but in the end we will feel that all the parts of our life are working together better.
I always love hearing from you, so if you feel like sending me a note, calling or coming to see me, please do!
Have a wonderful day!

Taxing Times

Taxing Times
Every year at this time, actually prior to mid-April to get it done on time, we go through the exercise of looking over our numbers for the year. And this exercise always provides fresh insight into our progress, which I find very useful.
Yes, it takes time to gather all the necessary documents and then tally up the various incomes and expenses, and it does require focus as well as finding things.
As a self employed person, each year the process gives me a clear vision of how things are really going.
For example, taking a closer look at one of my expenses revealed that it really was just a minor factor, although when one unexpected expense came up, my initial impression was that it was worse. So this cost will be held to a minimal level and not given more thought.
In another instance, the result I got from one expense was excellent, so this expense is confirmed and will increase.
How much use did I get out of some things in return for what I paid for them? What did they cost this year, compared to previous purchases? Would these be good choices to continue with, drop or change? Looking over expenses has influenced how I buy office supplies and equipment.
Which months of the year were busiest? Quietest? Knowing this helps plan ahead.
Were there things I spent more on that I thought I did? Yes. Was that a good decision? Am I happy with the result? Yes, and it brings other thoughts to mind about what to do with this expense.
Were there other new purchases or events I tried this year? Do I want to continue them?
Like all of you, at times I get impressions about how things are going, but then when I tally the numbers, I may be changing that opinion about what's good and what's not.
I have always felt that it is a good investment to hire a professional to help with this task because they always know about the current status of various changes in tax laws.
And I am grateful that my business is going well and so writing a check to cover what I owe in taxes is something I can do with no problem.
As a self employed person, taking time to focus and do this task, I am using it as a learning experience every spring. By changing my thinking about this task from considering it a drudgery to a fresh insight into my business it is something to look forward to.
It is another perspective on what I have done and how that will influence my plans for the immediate future.
I always love hearing from you, so if you feel like sending me a note, calling or coming to see me, please do!
Have a wonderful day!
